Opiliones (order)

Opiliones, commonly known as harvestmen or daddy longlegs, are arachnids characterized by their small, rounded bodies and long, spindly legs. Unlike spiders, they have a single combined body segment and lack venom glands or silk-producing organs. They are primarily scavengers or predators of small invertebrates, helping control insect populations. Found worldwide in diverse environments, they are harmless to humans and play a vital role in ecosystems by breaking down organic matter. Despite their name, they are not true spiders and represent a distinct order within the class Arachnida.
