Operation Anvil

Operation Anvil was a military plan during World War II, aimed at opening a new front in southern France to assist the Allied invasion of Europe. It involved landing forces along the French Riviera to secure key ports and disrupt German defenses. This operation was designed to complement the main invasion at Normandy and facilitate the movement of troops and supplies into Europe. Conducted in August 1944, it was successfully coordinated with the larger D-Day efforts, helping accelerate the liberation of France and weakening German control in Western Europe.
