Onin War

The Onin War (1467–1477) was a civil conflict in Japan that marked the beginning of the Sengoku period, a era of social and political upheaval. It started when two powerful daimyo (feudal lords) vied for control of Kyoto, the imperial capital. The war involved widespread fighting among various clans and samurai, leading to the weakening of central authority. Its prolonged chaos caused Japan to fragment into multiple, warring regions, setting the stage for decades of ongoing conflict and the eventual rise of regional samurai governments.
