On-base percentage

On-base percentage (OBP) is a baseball statistic that measures how often a batter reaches base safely during an at-bat. It considers hits, walks, and hit-by-pitches, divided by the total number of plate appearances (including outs). A higher OBP indicates a player reliably gets on base, contributing to team offense by creating opportunities to score. It is a more comprehensive indicator than batting average because it accounts for different ways players can reach base beyond just hits. OBP helps evaluate a player's overall offensive contribution and consistency at maintaining offensive presence.
