Omega-3 index
The Omega-3 Index is a measure of the amount of two important omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, in your red blood cell membranes. It reflects your overall omega-3 status and can indicate how well your body is supplied with these nutrients, which are vital for heart, brain, and joint health. A higher Omega-3 Index (generally between 8-11%) is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease, while lower levels may suggest the need to increase omega-3 intake through diet or supplements. It’s a useful marker for assessing and improving your omega-3 levels for long-term health benefits.
