Oman History

Oman’s history spans thousands of years, marked by its strategic coastal location. In ancient times, it was known for trade in frankincense and its ties to the Sumerians and Romans. Islam arrived in the 7th century, and Oman became an important center for the faith. Over centuries, it experienced various influences, including Persian, Portuguese, and British. The Sultanate emerged in the 20th century, with Sultan Qaboos ruling from 1970 until his death in 2020, modernizing the country while preserving its heritage. Today, Oman is notable for its cultural diversity, natural beauty, and stable governance in the Arabian Peninsula.
