Old Baldy Lighthouse
Old Baldy Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on Bald Head Island, North Carolina. Constructed in 1817, it is the oldest standing lighthouse in North Carolina. The lighthouse stands about 110 feet tall and features a distinctive octagonal shape. Its nickname "Old Baldy" comes from its weathered exterior, as it has lost much of its original paint over the years. The lighthouse was vital for guiding ships along the treacherous waters of the Cape Fear River and continues to be a popular attraction for visitors, offering panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and maritime forest.
