OGPU (Unified State Political Administration)
The OGPU (Unified State Political Administration) was a Soviet secret police organization active from 1922 to 1934. It was responsible for enforcing government policies, spying on citizens, suppressing political dissent, and maintaining internal security. Operating under the USSR's government, the OGPU conducted surveillance, arrests, and imprisonments to ensure loyalty and control. It played a key role in consolidating Stalin's power and implementing policies like collectivization and ideological conformity. The OGPU was eventually reorganized into the NKVD, continuing similar functions of internal security and political repression.
