Ogaden War

The Ogaden War was a conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia that occurred from 1977 to 1978, primarily over the Ogaden region, which is predominantly inhabited by ethnic Somalis. Somalia, under President Siad Barre, sought to annex the territory, claiming it as part of Greater Somalia. Ethiopia, experiencing internal political turmoil, received support from the Soviet Union and other allies. The war resulted in significant casualties and displacement, ending with Ethiopia maintaining control of the Ogaden region. The conflict exacerbated tensions in the Horn of Africa and influenced regional politics for years to come.
