Office of Fair Trading
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) was a UK government agency responsible for promoting competition and protecting consumers. It monitored business practices to ensure fair trading, prevented anti-competitive behavior, and treated consumers fairly. The OFT could investigate companies, enforce rules, and take action against unfair or deceptive practices. In 2014, its responsibilities were largely absorbed by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which now oversees these areas to maintain a fair and competitive marketplace for everyone.
