Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (OHS)

Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (OHS) is a condition mostly seen in severely overweight individuals, where breathing is inadequate during sleep and even while awake. Excess body fat around the chest and abdomen makes it harder for lungs to expand fully, leading to low oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels in the blood. This can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, and other health problems. OHS often occurs with sleep apnea and requires medical treatment, including weight management and sometimes breathing support like a ventilator, to improve breathing and overall health.
