Obelisk of Aksum
The Obelisk of Aksum is a tall, ancient granite monument in Ethiopia, built by the Aksumite civilization around the 4th century AD. It served as a tomb marker for royalty, showcasing sophisticated craftsmanship with intricate carvings and a stepped design that resembles a multi-tiered tower. Standing approximately 23 meters (75 feet) tall, it highlights the Aksumites' advanced engineering and cultural importance. Originally, four obelisks were erected, but only one remains in Ethiopia today, with others taken to Italy during colonial times. It is considered an important symbol of Ethiopia's historical heritage and ancient civilization.
