Żołnierze Wyklęci (Cursed Soldiers)
Żołnierze Wyklęci, or Cursed Soldiers, were Polish resistance fighters active mainly after World War II (late 1940s to early 1950s). They opposed Soviet domination and the communist government installed in Poland, fighting covertly against Soviet-backed authorities and communist forces. Despite fighting for Polish independence, they faced brutal repression, with many executed or imprisoned. Their struggle symbolizes resistance to oppression and the fight for national sovereignty. Today, they are remembered as national heroes who opposed foreign domination, though their actions were complex, involving guerrilla warfare against a range of occupying forces.
