Nottingham Prognostic Index

The Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI) is a tool doctors use to estimate breast cancer prognosis by considering three key factors: tumor size, lymph node involvement, and tumor grade. The size measures how large the tumor is. Lymph node involvement indicates whether cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes. Tumor grade reflects how abnormal or aggressive the cancer cells appear. By combining these factors into a formula, the NPI helps predict the likelihood of survival and guides treatment decisions, providing a standardized way to assess prognosis and plan appropriate care.
