Northridge Earthquake
The Northridge Earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994, in Los Angeles, California. It was a strong, shallow earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude, caused by the movement of a fault line beneath the Earth's surface. Because it was shallow, it caused significant shaking and damage over a broad area, especially impacting buildings, roads, and infrastructure. The quake lasted about 10 seconds but resulted in 57 deaths, thousands of injuries, and extensive property damage. It highlighted the importance of earthquake preparedness and building resilience in seismically active regions.
