Northern Kingdom
The Northern Kingdom refers to the ancient Israelite kingdom established after the reign of King Solomon, around 930 BCE. Following Solomon's death, the kingdom split into two: the Northern Kingdom, called Israel, and the Southern Kingdom, known as Judah. Israel comprised ten tribes and had its capital in Samaria. It was characterized by a series of kings, many of whom led the people away from traditional worship. The Northern Kingdom eventually fell to the Assyrian Empire around 722 BCE, leading to the exile of its inhabitants and the loss of its identity as a distinct nation.
