Norm-referenced testing
Norm-referenced testing assesses a student's performance by comparing it to that of a larger group, called the "norm group," usually comprised of students of similar age or grade. The goal is to see how a student's scores rank relative to peers, helping educators understand where the student stands in comparison. For example, if a student scores in the 75th percentile, they performed better than 75% of the norm group. These tests are useful for identifying strengths and weaknesses, informing instructional decisions, and tracking academic progress over time.
