Non-Opioid Analgesics
Non-opioid analgesics are medications used to relieve pain without the use of opioids, which are stronger and more addictive. Common examples include acetaminophen (Tylenol) and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen (Advil) and naproxen (Aleve). They work by reducing inflammation, blocking pain signals, or lowering fever. Non-opioid analgesics are often preferred for mild to moderate pain because they carry a lower risk of dependence and side effects compared to opioids. They can be used alone or in combination with other medications, depending on the type and severity of pain.
