NMT (Narrowband Mobile Telephony)

NMT (Narrowband Mobile Telephony) was one of the earliest mobile phone systems introduced in the 1980s. It used a limited amount of radio frequency spectrum (narrow bandwidth) to transmit voice signals between phones and cell towers. This technology enabled the first portable mobile calls, but offered relatively low sound quality and limited data capabilities compared to modern standards. NMT operated primarily in Europe and Scandinavia, paving the way for more advanced mobile networks. It laid important groundwork for the development of digital and broader spectrum mobile communication systems used today.
