Nixon Doctrine
The Nixon Doctrine, announced in 1969, was U.S. policy towards international conflicts, particularly in Asia. It stated that while the U.S. would support allies facing threats, it wouldn't always send large numbers of American troops needed for every conflict. Instead, allies should take primary responsibility for their own defense, with the U.S. providing aid and support when necessary. This approach aimed to reduce American troop commitments while encouraging other nations to take more responsibility for their security, reflecting a shift towards a more strategic and cost-conscious foreign policy during the Cold War.
