Nissen Fundoplication

Nissen fundoplication is a surgical procedure used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. During the operation, the upper part of the stomach (fundus) is wrapped around the lower end of the esophagus. This creates a better barrier to prevent acid reflux while still allowing swallowing. The procedure aims to reduce symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation, improving quality of life. It is typically performed laparoscopically, meaning through small incisions, resulting in less pain and quicker recovery.
