Nicosia

Nicosia is the capital city of Cyprus, an island in the eastern Mediterranean. It uniquely features a political division: the northern part is controlled by Turkish Cypriots, while the southern part is governed by Greek Cypriots. The city is divided by a United Nations-controlled buffer zone, known as the Green Line, which acts as a demilitarized area separating the two communities. Nicosia is a cultural and economic hub, with historic sites, busy markets, and government institutions. Its divided nature reflects the ongoing political tensions between Greece and Turkey over Cyprus’s status, making it a symbol of both conflict and hope for reunification.
