Nicaea (Council of)
The Council of Nicaea, held in 325 AD, was a gathering of Christian leaders called by Emperor Constantine to address theological disagreements and unify the church. The main issue was clarifying the nature of Jesus Christ, specifically affirming that Jesus is divine and of the same essence as God the Father. This resulted in the Nicene Creed, a statement of faith that remains foundational in Christianity. The council also tackled church calendar standards and other doctrinal matters, shaping Christianity's development and helping establish uniform beliefs across different regions.
