Ngāi Tūhoe Settlement Act 2013
The Ngāi Tūhoe Settlement Act 2013 is legislation enacted by New Zealand to settle historical grievances of the Ngāi Tūhoe iwi (tribe) related to land and cultural grievances caused by government actions in the past. The Act provides financial compensation, returns certain land holdings to Ngāi Tūhoe, and establishes a Deed of Settlement that recognizes their history and rights. It aims to support the iwi’s economic development, cultural revival, and self-management, fostering reconciliation and partnership between Ngāi Tūhoe and the Crown.
