Netherlands Antilles
The Netherlands Antilles was a group of Caribbean islands that were part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It included islands like Curaçao, Bonaire, and Aruba, among others. Established as a political entity in 1954, it allowed the islands some local self-governance while remaining under Dutch sovereignty. In 2010, the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved: Aruba became a separate country within the Kingdom, while Curaçao and Sint Maarten gained similar status. The remaining islands, Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius, became special municipalities of the Netherlands. Overall, the Netherlands Antilles was a former political grouping that has since reorganized into separate entities.
