Neozapatismo
Neozapatismo is a social and political movement originating in Mexico, rooted in the ideals of Emiliano Zapata, a revolutionary leader. It emphasizes indigenous rights, local governance, social justice, and resistance to economic and political exclusion. The movement gained prominence in 1994 when armed groups in Chiapas, advocating for land reform and the rights of indigenous communities, took up arms but later shifted toward nonviolent activism and community-led development. Neozapatismo combines revolutionary ideals with democratic practices, fostering autonomy and empowering marginalized populations to participate actively in shaping their society.
