Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome (NRDS)

Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome (NRDS) is a condition in newborns, mainly premature ones, where their lungs are not fully developed. This causes difficulty in breathing because the lungs lack enough surfactant, a substance that keeps the air sacs open. Without enough surfactant, the baby's lungs may collapse, leading to rapid breathing, grunting, and low oxygen levels. NRDS is treatable, often with supplemental oxygen, medications, and sometimes breathing support. Early diagnosis and care are crucial to help the baby breathe better and prevent complications.
