Ned Ludd
Ned Ludd was a legendary figure associated with early 19th-century protests against the Industrial Revolution’s automation. Although likely a myth or symbolic figure, he represented workers' fears that new machinery would threaten their jobs and traditional crafts. The term “Luddite” emerged from these protests, as groups of artisans damaged or destroyed machines they believed were replacing human labor. Today, “Luddite” is used to describe those wary of or resisting technological advancements, especially when such changes impact employment or society. The figure of Ned Ludd symbolizes resistance to technological change driven by concerns over economic and social disruption.
