Near-Infrared Interactance

Near-Infrared Interactance (NIR) is a non-invasive method used to estimate body composition, like body fat percentage. It works by shining a near-infrared light into the body, usually on the biceps or other muscle areas. The light penetrates the tissue and reflects back, with some absorbed by fat, muscle, and water. Sensors analyze the reflected light patterns to determine the amounts of these components. This technique provides a quick, painless way to assess health-related metrics without needing blood samples or uncomfortable procedures.
