Nawab of Awadh

The Nawab of Awadh was a regional ruler in northern India during the 18th and 19th centuries, governing the principality of Awadh (or Oudh). As a semi-autonomous governor under the Mughal Empire, the Nawab held considerable political, military, and economic power, especially in Lucknow, the capital. Over time, the Nawabs gained more independence but also faced increasing control and influence from the British East India Company. Their leadership played a significant role in shaping the history, culture, and architecture of the region, although their authority declined with the expansion of British dominance in India.
