Nauvoo

Nauvoo is an historic city in Illinois, established in the early 19th century by Mormon pioneers led by Joseph Smith. It became a significant religious community for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The town was known for its early growth, social cohesion, and religious innovations. However, tensions with neighbors and legal conflicts led to the Mormon migration westward in the 1840s, primarily to Utah. Today, Nauvoo is a popular historical site and pilgrimage location, preserving the legacy of early Mormon settlement, faith, and community development.
