National Union Party
The National Union Party was a political coalition formed in the United States during the Civil War in 1864, primarily to support Abraham Lincoln’s re-election. It brought together Republicans and War Democrats who backed the Union war effort, aiming to present a united front against the Confederacy. The party’s platform focused on preserving the Union and ending slavery. After Lincoln’s election, the party often served as a temporary alliance, but many of its members either became Republicans or aligned with other political groups once the war concluded.
