National Republican Party
The National Republican Party, often called the Whig Party, was a political group active in the United States from the 1830s to the 1850s. It emerged in opposition to President Andrew Jackson and the Democratic Party, advocating for a strong federal government, national infrastructure projects, and modernization. The party supported economic development, a protective tariff, and a cautious approach to westward expansion. Although it eventually dissolved, many of its members helped form the Republican Party in the 1850s, which became a major political force. The National Republican Party played a key role in shaping early American political debates about government and economy.
