National Invasive Species Council (U.S.)
The National Invasive Species Council (NISC) is a U.S. government initiative aimed at coordinating efforts to manage and prevent the introduction of harmful non-native species that threaten local ecosystems, economy, and health. Established by law in 1999, it brings together various federal, state, and tribal agencies to develop strategies and policies. NISC focuses on research, public education, and promoting collaboration across regions to effectively address the challenges posed by invasive species, which can disrupt natural habitats, outcompete native species, and harm agriculture and fisheries. Its goal is to protect America's natural resources and biodiversity.
