National Institute of General Medical Sciences

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is a part of the U.S. government’s National Institutes of Health. It funds and supports basic scientific research that helps us understand how the human body works. This knowledge creates a foundation for developing new medicines and treatments for a variety of health conditions. NIGMS also trains scientists and promotes innovation in biomedical research.
