National Commission on the Disappeared
The National Commission on the Disappeared, officially known as the National Commission on the Disappeared Persons (Comisión Nacional sobre la Desaparición de Personas, or CONADEP), was established in Argentina in 1983. Its main purpose was to investigate the forced disappearances that occurred during the military dictatorship from 1976 to 1983. This commission aimed to document human rights abuses, provide a record of the victims, and promote accountability for those responsible. Its findings contributed to Argentina's historical memory and legal frameworks aimed at preventing such abuses in the future. The commission’s report, "Nunca Más," highlighted the tragedy of enforced disappearances.
