National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII)

The National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) was a U.S. federal program that coordinated and provided access to biological data from government agencies, research institutions, and other organizations. Its goal was to support research, conservation, and management of living resources by linking information about species, habitats, and ecological processes. Essentially, it served as a digital library and network, making biological data more accessible and useful for scientists, policymakers, and the public. The NBII was active until 2012, after which its functions were integrated into other data-sharing initiatives.
