Napoleon III, born Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, was the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte and became Emperor of France from 1852 to 1870. He initially rose to power through a popular vote after a coup d'état, promising stability and prosperity. His reign is marked by modernization efforts like expanding railways and industry, as well as foreign adventures such as involvement in the Crimean War and the Franco-Prussian War. His rule ultimately ended with France's defeat in 1870, leading to the fall of the Second French Empire and the establishment of the Third Republic.
