Nalanda Tradition

The Nalanda Tradition refers to the ancient Indian scholarly and spiritual tradition centered around Nalanda University, established around the 5th century CE. It was a renowned center for learning, philosophy, and Buddhist studies, attracting students and teachers from across Asia. The tradition emphasized rigorous scholarship, meditation, and the transmission of knowledge through texts, debates, and monastic practices. It played a pivotal role in spreading Indian cultural and spiritual ideas and laid foundations for Buddhist teachings and education. Although the original university was destroyed in the 12th century, the Nalanda Tradition continues to influence modern Buddhist thought and educational initiatives.
