Myrmeleontidae (antlions)
Myrmeleontidae, commonly known as antlions, are insects best known for their unique predatory behavior in their larval stage. They create conical pits in sandy or loose soil to trap ants and other small insects. When an unsuspecting prey falls into the pit, the antlion larva quickly captures it. Adult antlions resemble delicate dragonflies but have long, slender bodies and large, net-like wings. While the larvae are active predators, the adults primarily feed on nectar and are less aggressive. Antlions play a role in controlling insect populations in their habitats, contributing to the ecosystem's balance.
