Myrmeleontidae
Myrmeleontidae is a family of insects commonly known as antlions. They are characterized by their delicate, lace-like wings and elongated bodies. Adult antlions resemble dragonflies but are generally smaller and weaker fliers. Their most notable stage is the larva, which creates conical pit traps in sandy soil to catch ants and other small insects. After feeding and growing, larvae pupate and emerge as adults. Antlions are mostly beneficial insects, as their larvae help control pest populations. They are found worldwide in warm, sandy environments and play a unique role in the ecosystem as predators of small, ground-dwelling insects.
