Myrmecophily

Myrmecophily refers to a mutual relationship between certain insects or plants and ants. In this partnership, the non-ant species often provide food or shelter for the ants, while receiving protection from predators in return. For example, some plants produce nectar that attracts ants, which then help defend the plants from herbivores. Similarly, certain insects, like some aphids, may live in ant colonies, gaining safety, while ants benefit from honeydew secreted by these insects. This collaboration enhances survival for both parties, showcasing the complex interactions within ecosystems.
