Myelosuppression
Myelosuppression is a condition where the bone marrow's ability to produce blood cells is decreased. Since bone marrow is responsible for creating red blood cells (which carry oxygen), white blood cells (which fight infection), and platelets (which help blood clot), this reduction can lead to fatigue, increased risk of infections, and easy bruising or bleeding. It can occur as a side effect of treatments like chemotherapy or radiation, or from certain medical conditions. Managing myelosuppression involves monitoring blood counts and possibly providing transfusions or medications to support blood cell production.
