Myeloid Malignancies

Myeloid malignancies are a group of blood cancers originating in the bone marrow, where blood cells are produced. These cancers involve abnormal growth and development of myeloid cells, a type of white blood cell vital for fighting infections. When these cells become cancerous, they multiply uncontrollably, crowding out healthy blood cells and impairing immune function. Common types include acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. Symptoms may include fatigue, infections, easy bruising, or anemia. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests and bone marrow biopsies. Treatment options vary and can include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or stem cell transplants, aiming to control or eradicate the disease.
