
Murad I
Murad I was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1362 to 1389. He is known for expanding the empire significantly in the Balkans and for establishing important administrative and military reforms. Murad I introduced the devshirme system, which recruited Christian boys to serve in the military and administration, fostering a loyal and capable elite. He also founded the Janissary corps, an elite fighting force. His reign ended when he was killed in the Battle of Kosovo, a pivotal conflict that solidified Ottoman power in southeastern Europe. His legacy laid the groundwork for the continued expansion of the empire.
