Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a structured approach schools use to help all students succeed academically and behaviorally. It involves providing different levels of support based on each student’s needs. The first tier offers universal strategies to all students. If a student struggles, they receive more targeted interventions in the second tier. For students who still need extra help, intensive, individualized support is provided in the third tier. MTSS emphasizes early identification, data-driven decision making, and collaboration to ensure that intervention is suitable and effective for each learner.
