Mullah Omar, born in 1959, was the founder and leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan. He became a prominent religious and political figure, promoting an ultraconservative interpretation of Islamic law. After the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s, he gained influence among Pashtun tribes and later established the Taliban in the 1990s, aiming to create a strict Islamic state.
