Mullah Mohammed Omar

Mullah Mohammed Omar was the co-founder and leader of the Taliban, an Islamist militant group in Afghanistan. He emerged in the 1990s amid civil war, promising to restore order and enforce a strict interpretation of Islamic law. Under his leadership, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, implementing policies that severely restricted women's rights and targeted minorities. Following the U.S. invasion in 2001, Omar became a fugitive, leading a militant insurgency against the Afghan government and U.S. forces until his death in 2013. His legacy is deeply entwined with the Taliban's influence and Afghanistan’s conflicts.
