Muisca Confederation
The Muisca Confederation was a group of indigenous tribes in what is now Colombia, particularly in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense region. Active before the Spanish conquest, this confederation was characterized by cities like Bacatá (present-day Bogotá) and a shared culture, economic activities, and religious beliefs. The Muisca people were known for their skilled agriculture and goldwork. Governance was loosely structured, with leaders called "zipas" and "zipas" overseeing different territories. The Muisca Confederation played a crucial role in the cultural and historical identity of the region, showcasing a sophisticated society long before European contact.
