MTC (Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma)
Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) is a type of cancer that begins in the thyroid gland, specifically from specialized cells called C cells, which produce a hormone called calcitonin. Unlike other thyroid cancers, MTC often grows quietly but can spread to nearby tissues or lymph nodes. It may sometimes be linked to genetic conditions. Symptoms might include a lump in the neck or changes in voice, but early stages often have no symptoms. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the thyroid and affected lymph nodes, and close follow-up is necessary to monitor for recurrence or spread.
